New York University Business and Economic Reporting Program

NYU's innovative Masters of Arts program in Business and Economic Reporting (BER) is one of just a few schools in the U.S. that offers an interdisciplinary approach to business journalism on the graduate degree level. In addition to specialized classes in all forms of financial writing, students take courses in the MBA program at NYU's Stern School of Business. The program enrolls twelve students each fall, and in seven years has welcomed students from nearly 20 countries. Moreover, since 1994, the NYU Dept. of Journalism has maintained a working relationship with Rostov University in Russia that includes exchanges of students and faculty; one group of NYU graduate students just returned from Rostov, where they had teamed up with Russian students on various reporting assigments in that city. BER students have gone on to reporting jobs at Bloomberg, Business Week, CNBC, CNN, Dow Jones, Financial Times, Forbes, Money, Reuters and other major news outlets. BER founder and director, Stephen Solomon, is a former Fortune and Inc. writer, and a winner of both the Loeb and Hancock awards.
