"I cannot say who is behind all this," he noted. "I am aware of his careless handling with facts, which was cleared up in the British court," Mr. Berezovsky added meaning his libel suit against the Forbes magazine, which the exiled tycoon had won. "Unfortunately, he used to invent many facts and someone must have disliked this very much," Boris Berezovsky said. According to him, Paul Khlebnikov interviewed him in Moscow in 1996. After that they did not see each other. Paul Khlebnikov did not attend hearings at court.

He said that the inquiry was considering two options as to why he had been murdered, one possibility being that the murder was related with Mr. Khlebnikov's professional activities. According to Mr. Vasiliev, the police said that "sufficient measures were being taken" to solve the murder.

MOSCOW, July 10 (RIA Novosti) - The Moscow Prosecutor's Office believes there is a direct link between the murder of Paul Khlebnikov , Editor-in-Chief of the Russian edition of the Forbes magazine, and his investigative reporting, spokespeople for the Prosecutor told RIA Novosti Saturday. Khlebnikov was fatally wounded outside his office late July 9, and he died from the wounds in hospital.
Prosecutor Anatoly Zuyev has reportedly decided to hand the case over to the murder and banditry department of the Moscow Prosecutor's Office. Investigators of this department have vast experience in probing contact killings. Criminal proceedings in connection with Paul Khlebnikov 's murder have been launched as pursuant to Article 105 of the Russian Penal Code.
Before being taken to hospital, the journalist told a by-stander that he had been shot at by a man he had seen before.
